Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.”
Genesis 1:20 NKJV
Hello friends, and welcome to today’s Scripture thought.
The phrase “abound with an abundance” is transliterated from the Hebrew word šāraṣ, which can mean to teem, swarm, or multiply.
This word can also be found in Genesis 9:7:
…And as for you, be fruitful and multiply;
Bring forth abundantly (šāraṣ) in the earth
And multiply in it.”
This verse also states that God said “let the birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.”
The phrase “of the heavens” is transliterated from the Hebrew word šāmayim, which can mean:
- heaven, heavens, sky
- visible heavens, sky
- as abode of the stars
- as the visible universe, the sky, atmosphere, etc
- Heaven (as the abode of God)
- visible heavens, sky
