Genesis 1:9

Welcome to today’s Scripture thought. I’m so glad you are here!

Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.

Genesis 1:9 (NKJV)

God (‘ĕlōhîm) said for the waters under the heavens to be gathered together.

The phrase “be gathered together” is translated from the Hebrew word qāvâ, and can mean to wait, look for, hope, expect, or alternatively, to collect or bind together.

This word can also be found in Genesis 49:18, “I have waited (qāvâ) for your salvation, O LORD!”

“Appear” is translated from the Hebrew word rā’â, and usually means to see, look at, inspect, perceive, or consider.
