Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.
Genesis 1:7 (NKJV)
God (‘ĕlōhîm) made the firmament, and divided the waters.
The word “made” is translated from the Hebrew word ʿāśâ which means to do, accomplish, fashion, or make.
This word can also be found in Genesis 2:3:
“Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made (ʿāśâ ).”
“Firmament” is translated from the Hebrew word rāqîaʿ, and can mean extended (solid) surface, or expanse.
