Psalm 1:2

Hello, and welcome to another short discussion of Psalms. I just love the Psalms. They offer so much wisdom and encouragement.

Let’s pick up in Psalm 1:2.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.”
(NKJV)

In this psalm, we are taught to delight in the law of the Lord. “His delight” is translated from the Hebrew word ḥēp̄eṣ. It means delight, desire, longing, and good pleasure.

Instead of walking with sinners or standing with scoffers, we are instructed to long for the law of God. Those who seek YHWH with their whole hearts understand that walking in God’s ways brings them good pleasure. This is much better than anything the world could offer.

The word “meditate” is translated from the Hebrew word hāḡâ. Some of this word’s meanings include meditate, speak, imagine, or study.

A similar verse with this word in it is Josiah 1:8:

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Let’s remember to meditate on God’s Word today.
